Preseason Results: Monterrey Beats Morelia

Logo MonterreyMonterrey earned a win in their first preseason game, downing Monarcas Morelia 3-2 in Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, thanks to a late goal.

Dorlan Pabón opened the scoring for the Rayados in the 30th minute with a free kick, but Morelia replied almost immediately. In the 32nd minute, Juan Pablo Rodríguez took a shot from distance that beat Juan de Dios Ibarra, who wasn’t expecting a shot from that range.

Monterrey would retake the lead before halftime, however. A foul in the box gave the Rayados a penalty kick, and Pabón took it to score his second of the night. Morelia’s new goalkeeper, Cirilo Saucedo, could do nothing about the well-placed PK.

As usual in these friendlies, both teams made a number of changes at halftime and early on. Morelia notably changed their keeper, with Carlos Felipe Rodríguez coming on for the second half.
