The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the one week set aside by Governor Akinwumi Ambode for his town hall meeting will afford the electorate to appraise the governor’s score card and rate him regularly.
In a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party said the governor has, with the initiation of the meetings, shown that his government will not only be accountable but mindful of the needs of those voted him into office across the state.
It said the quarterly parley will serve as a feedback mechanism for the government to know how its policies and programmes affect the people.
The statement reads: “With this proven desire to carry the people of Lagos along his policies, Governor Ambode will take governance down to the grassroots that form the base of governance. We urged the good people of Lagos to continue to support the governor in his resolve to continue the legacy of uninterrupted development of Lagos for the good of every Nigerian.
“We salute this initiative of the governor in practicalising the engagement of the people in governance. We see the town hall meeting and its commencement as a needed drive to make governance compliant with the wishes and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
“Our party believes the governor’ll make the people the epicenter of his governance through regular fora where he renders periodic accounts and gets feedback. We see this as being in consonance with the ideology and belief of our great party which places the interests of the people at the height of governance.
“Lagos APC is elated by the overwhelming turnout at the meetings held so far as we say that this points to the fact that the people have keen interest in how they are governed and overwhelmingly affirm their support for governor Ambode and our party.
“We believe that the massive turnout show that the people are eager to seize the governor’s invitation to partner the government to take Lagos to further heights for the good of all Nigerians.
“We urge the good people of Lagos not only to continue participating actively in such interactions but also continue to come out with good ideas to help the present government to excel in the task of governing an important state as Lagos. While we thank Lagosians for their supports so far for the governor and the APC, we urge them to sustain their support to the government as this will bode well for all of us. We salute the governor on this laudable initiative and urge him to continue engaging Lagosians for the purpose of getting the best for Lagos and furthering the ends of good and accountable governance.”
